5 Ways to Develop a Success Habit of Great Achievers

5 Ways to Develop a Success Habit of Great Achievers

Failure leads to success

“For though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity.” Proverbs 24:16

In the previous article that I wrote (If You Want to Succeed You Will Need to Develop Spiritual Amnesia), we discussed the importance of developing spiritual amnesia. In this article, I want you to learn five ways to develop this powerful life-altering principle.

#1 You have to forgive anyone and everyone that has hurt you including yourself.

Life is full of hurts, pain, trials, and tribulations but these incidents should not hold you back from your preferred future. If you have not been hurt by people in this life, don’t worry it’s coming! Some will hurt you intentionally, others unintentionally, and some people are just down right evil… Even though people will hurt you, it’s up to you to forgive them, because if you don’t you only hurt yourself.  Forgiveness is not for the benefit of your enemies; it’s for your benefit. Did you know that the inability to forgive causes stress, which can lead to sickness in your body? Dr. Don Colbert says, “One of the secret causes of stress plaguing millions of people is unforgiveness.” So do yourself a favor and forgive everyone who has hurt you; you don’t need that bitterness, resentment, anger, and hostility inside you.

#2 You have to ask God to forgive you for the wrong you have done towards Him.

It is crucial to forgive others because that forgiveness is completely connected to God forgiving you. Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men of their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”  It’s important to forgive others and ask God to forgive you for the wrong you have done. The amazing thing about God that no human fully possesses is his ability to completely forget any wrong you have done. If you ask God for forgiveness of your past sins, whether a simple lie or a mass murder, He will hear you and forgive you for all of it. He will never bring it back up- take a look at King David’s revelation of God’s forgiveness in Psalm 103:12: “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” Isaiah also received the same understanding in Isaiah 1:18: “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord.” Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.”

#3 You have to consciously blot out your past failures and some successes.

Our memory can be a blessing or hindrance to us, all depending on how we choose to use it. Some use it to hold on to all the past hurts that others have caused.. Some  use their memory to recall of past victories and use them as momentum in future endeavors. What you choose to remember can create a stepping stool to your future or dig a pit into your past. Even your past success can hinder you because you stay there and think that you have achieved- therefore you become stagnant. A great painter was asked what’s your greatest painting, he said, “my next one.” Don’t let good or bad memories hinder you; keep progressing.

#4 You have to have to accept the failure is part of success.

We are all guilty of letting our past failures stop us from attempting the bold ideas we have. The fear of failure grips many and destroys dreams and visions. Failure has to become your weapon not the armor you wear. When failure is a weapon, that’s when you can use it to pierce through your challenges because you keep learning from them. The worst thing that can happen as a result of failure is that you learn what not to do. Thomas Edison, creator and innovator of some of the most life changing inventions, said “I failed my way to success”. Remember failure is a part of success and if you desire something, failure is the test you must pass to prove that you are worthy of that desire.

#5 You have to realize your biggest success can come from your biggest failures.

For this last principle, I want to leave you with a story that will change the way you think about failure forever. This story is taken from the book “Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill – (Video of 3 Feet from Gold):

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
― Thomas A. Edison

The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare. — Psalm 25:14-15
