Trash to Treasure
If it’s not one thing, it’s another. It may sound cliché, but the phrase is true. Many times in life, it seems once one mistake is made, everything surrounding it becomes one big unmanageable mess! It’s something about a downward spiral, an overwhelming trickle effect, that makes us cry out “Why is this happening now!? Why me!?” Our focus becomes clouded by distractions as we attempt to block out all the trash the world has thrown in our direction. Too often we put our emotions and energy into questioning why something isn’t going right without considering that even in the worst of situations, God can turn what we see as trash into a beautiful treasure.
I can recall a time where almost every situation imaginable catapulted at once. My mother was diagnosed with Lupus, there were more bills than money, my friendships were changing, and I despised my job. I felt lost. Everything was such a mess and my shoulders felt so heavy! I didn’t understand my situation then but little did I know God was working behind the scenes with His hands of magic, turning my mess into a message.
See, we all go through junk in our lives. We all go through those moments where we feel thrown off to the side-completely worn-out, worried, or down. However, these are the moments God sees our situation as an opportunity for restoration and innovation! We must remember- even when we are broken, we are His beautiful masterpieces- full of materials and opportunity for repurposing.
God will never place more on us than we can stand (1 Cor. 10:13). If things are disintegrating from your life, He has simply started the transformation. Trust in His process and know it is giving you an invaluable skill that translates to your purpose. All He wants is for you to be in a position to receive all He has for you. Trust His faithfulness; for one man’s trash might be God’s plan for treasure, formation and hope. So what trash are you trying to hide or hold on to that God is trying to repurpose?
Each day, choose to meet yourself where you are. The good, the bad-whatever. Choose to meet yourself where you are, rest at this place, trust that God will show you the restoration and innovation He has for your life. And soon you’ll understand…your mess didn’t break you, but instead, paved the way for your greatest message.
“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”-2 Corinthians 4:6-9 (NLT)
