What is Drive without Purpose?

Clear-Sense-Of-Purpose

Have you ever just jumped into your car and just drove off with no real purpose for leaving the house in the first place? Now, I want you to compare that to a time that you left the house with a purpose. I’m not saying the purpose has to be something deep and profound; it could be something really simple like going to the grocery store or a friend’s house. We head out the grocery store with a shopping list, the cash or card to make the purchase, and maybe an appetite because the refrigerator is empty. Well now, let’s go back to the time with no purpose. We jump in the car, drive around for a little while, get bored and head back. I feel that’s how most of us approach life. The decisions we make without a purpose usually provide short term solutions. We can have all the drive in the world but when we are not driven with a purpose, it falls flat.

Have you ever met someone who prides him or herself on drive? They will usually give will you a hundred examples of how their drive has help them succeed. However, this same person often lacks focus and hasn’t made their imprint on anything. I battled with purpose all my life until I realized that my purpose is to entertain. I feel so fulfilled when I am on stage, in front of people, or in front of a camera pouring my soul out. I had drive for days and I knew I just wanted to be successful but I had no purpose to channel these feelings. I’ll take it one step further. In my spiritual life, I knew I had the drive to be a good person but the purpose came in when I found Jesus. The Lord encourages us to have the drive to carry out his plan but we must find purpose that directs that drive to our destination. Purpose is strong a word within itself because when we say someone is moving with purpose, we know to move out of their way. You will even find yourself praying with purpose and once you start doing that, you are driven to the Lord with purpose. I hear people say they are attracted to people with drive. Add that drive to purpose and you are now a force to be reckoned with.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, — Ephesians 5:25-26
