God Loves Fools

As I sit and think about the transformation that has occurred in my life, I can’t help but cry… God has been way too good to me and I am still trying to figure out why??? Like David said in Psalm 8:4, “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” None of us deserve God’s grace and mercy but He still finds a way to overwhelm us with His love for us. In my past, I WAS a thieving-fornicating-lying-backstabbing-weed-using-porn-addict-lusting-alcohol-drinking-rebellious-fool. The list doesn’t end there but you get the point. And on top of all this, I never felt like fitted in at school.

During elementary school, I was among the few black kids going to a private school (Shout out to St. Johns!). Then I went to a public middle school and struggled to find who I was and sadly, almost didn’t make it out. I got to high school and was extremely lost. I had friends of all different ethnic groups but I still couldn’t find where I belonged. Got into college and the search to find myself continued; I was trying to find myself by smoking, drinking, and pursuing women. After realizing these fads would only provide me with temporary highs, I gave my life to the Lord in a very dramatic way. I say all this to say if I only knew that God loved the misfits and the people that don’t blend in with the crowd, I wouldn’t have wasted so much time in my foolishness. Truthfully, none of us are supposed to blend in with the crowd because we are all different. The only person who fully understands us is the God who made us. If you feel like you don’t fit in, like you’re an outcast or like you don’t belong, it’s because you don’t belong to this world; you belong to God. As Jesus said to us in John 17:16, They do not belong to this world any more than I do.”

God chose me to be apart of His family even though I was considered an outcast and a fool in the world’s eyes. He loves to use what the world rejects to show His glory. 1 Corinthians 1:27 says, “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” He loves the fools, outcasts, and misfits of this world. Just take a look at the stories of David, Jonah, Zaccheus, the Apostle Paul, and many others. Don’t be ashamed of your past, your mistakes, or anything else because God isn’t ashamed of you. If He transformed my life, He can and will do the same for you!

[Life by the Spirit] You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. — Galatians 5:13
