Why Week: Why Ashley’s Getting Loud!

Ashley Chatman

For many years, I became very quiet, closed off and self-conscious about my passion to become a professional actor. I was ashamed to tell people about my true aspirations out of fear of being made of fun, seeing the condescending/disapproving looks and receiving harsh criticism. Even though God had already confirmed to me many times through fasting and prayer that this was his calling and destiny for my life, I allowed that fear to drive my mindset and push me further away from what he had purposed.

And then a few years ago my mom suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. There is something about losing a loved one that makes you reevaluate who are, who you want to be and the legacy you wish to leave behind you. Losing a loved one also made me realize how finite life is and how I shouldn’t waste my time worrying about what others think of me because ultimately, God’s perception of me is all that matters.

It was then that I finally decided to throw my hands, give it God and stop fighting it. Performing, entertaining and in many cases, ministering through the arts is something that has fascinated and driven me since before I can remember. I was tired of staying quiet, bottled up and being ashamed of my talent, and I realized that if God does not operate in a spirit of fear, then why should I? Deuteronomy 31:6 says “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

As a result, I decided to create “Ashley Out Loud” as an opportunity for me to get loud about who I am and what I love to do. “Ashley Out Loud” is a web channel and website that will feature my performances, industry info, acting tips and much more. As I get loud, it’s my hope to also inspire other actors, entertainers and dreamers alike to also be bold and pursue their professional goals as well.

I hope you enjoy what I have to say and that you stand in the boldness God has given you to face your purpose and ANYTHING life throws your way. Know that your are more than a conqueror, you are above and not beneath, you are the head and not the tail and you are equipped to handle all things. Life is too short and God is too good to accept any other reality as truth.
