Persistence: The One Thing That Separates You from Others

Persistence: The One Thing That Separates You from Others

Persistence is something everybody knows they need to have in order to be successful but it’s also something that few of us actually have. What do you do when you want to give up but you know the devastating effects if you do? How do you handle rejection, disappointment, and failure?  Persistence is what separates the good from the great. Persistency is the ability to continue in your course of action despite adversity and opposition.

Some of the greatest achievers, leaders and influencers were not necessarily the best, they just outlasted the best. Here’s a look at two historical figures and one modern figure who refused to give up:

-Thomas Edison, one of the most prolific inventors in history holding 1,093 US patents, was told he was too stupid to learn anything. He persevered through 9,000 failed attempts before creating the world-changing light bulb.

-Abraham Lincoln, former president and one of the most respected and revered leaders in US history, had no more than five years of formal education throughout his entire lifetime.

-At last- Tyler Perry, famous director, writer, producer, and actor of a plethora of films, plays, tv shows and much more. What most don’t know is that Tyler Perry dropped out of high school, got a GED, almost committed suicide, and was living out of his car for a period of time. From 1992 to 1998, he had very small crowds showing up to his plays but he tried one last time in the House of Blues in Atlanta. The rest is history

Are you where you want to be? Most of us aren’t but we have no idea how close we are and every struggle, every door slammed, every rejection you face only brings you closer to your God given purpose. A test is a qualifier to see if you deserve what you are pursuing. Faith that is not tested cannot be trusted. In order for you to receive what God has for you, you must be pruned, tested, and proven Persistence is the answer to passing the test. If you fail, it’s ok, get back up and try again. Trust me, I do not have enough hours in a day to discuss how many times I have failed, but one thing I know is- I have never nor will I ever give up.

Keep this scripture tattooed on your heart:

Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
