Look at How Far You’ve Come, not How Far You’ve Got to Go

Do you use New Year’s to reflect on the past year? I know a lot people who get their big resolutions in order. They also “party like a rockstar” on New Year’s Eve with  an “I’m going to change my life tomorrow” attitude. I was a victim of this vicious cycle for a long time. This year, I wanted to do something different. I decided that I want to affirm what I am thankful for and build on those instead of thinking about change. I have three life-changing things that happened to me this year that I am very thankful for.

I restored a much-damaged relationship with my Lord and Savior. I was so bitter toward religion but this year sparked a renaissance in this department. I found an awesome tribe right in Los Angeles. My church-home, is Mosaic and it has changed my life dramatically. I have gotten closer to Jesus by meeting so many inspirational people at Mosaic. It was the place where I decided I was ALL IN with Jesus. There is no turning back for me because I realize that without him I am nothing.

The second thing was joining Being Encouraged. I have never been a part of something on the ground-floor and this could not have been a better opportunity. To those who know me personally know I don’t look at life negatively. I always try to find the lesson in every moment, whether it is good or bad. This medium and group of awesome people gave me a platform to reach you out and share some of my experiences. I love each and every one of my peers. I am proud to say that what we do is for you and we pray you take something out of it.

The third and final thing is the ability to truly embrace change. The two experiences I shared in the first three paragraphs revolve around my willingness to accept what I can’t control. Change is something that will always happen in our lives. I personally believe that the people who embrace change actually enjoy their lives more. They don’t diagnose the change or over-think what is changing. They just take it in stride, good or bad. I am so thankful for The Lord giving me strength to do all these things through changing my way of thinking.

I will be the first one tell you 2 years ago, I was the most shallow person. I thought it was all about money and expensive things, but I am so thankful for things that I can’t buy. I am thankful for my family because this once financially poor kid is very rich in love. I have some of the best friends anyone can ask for in the world. So next time you are thinking about what you can change, just be happy with what you are thankful for in life. Trust me, if it’s meant to change, it will; there is no reason to always look weaknesses when we barely know our strengths.

Hello, My Mannie Ramos Jr and I am from a city right outside of Philadelphia called Camden, NJ. I grew up with a rough child and nothing really came easy but at the age of 17 I graduated high school and joined the U.S. Army. I spent 10 years while serving all over the world and I decided to get out in 2012 and pursue a full time career as an actor. I currently reside in LA pursuing this dream. I love to encourage people to be the best that they can be. You never know who looks to you for encouragement so do not slight anyone from being encouraged by your actions and words.
