Where Does Time Management Rank on Your Priority List?
What is the most valuable asset in your life? I know some will say money, health, family, love but I am going to say TIME! Time is something that if we use correctly, we can achieve endless success. How many times did you just want a week to fly by because you had something planned for the weekend? I admit, I’ve been guilty of this my whole life. I don’t really do resolutions, not because I am too cool for them or don’t believe them, but I rather choose to make changes throughout the year. The only resolution I have is to reflect on my year quarterly, so I don’t let a whole year slip by wasted.
The worst year of my adult life was 2005 when I spent the year in Iraq. I say this loosely because it wasn’t all bad. When I was there, all I did was count down the days until I went back home. I look back at that year now, almost ten years removed from it and I see a lot of success. I was probably in the best physical shape of my life. I worked out twice day and not to mention, it was so hot there! That year, I also made a commitment to living in the present moment. I didn’t have the most dangerous job while deployed, but it was still Iraq. I couldn’t let my mind wander on a convoy because I had people to my left and right that counted on me. The point of the story is that it took me years not look at that as a failed year. I felt like I wasted a year of my life when in reality, I gained so much more perspective on life that year.
I urge you- that next time you are trying to rush through your week to get that weekend, look at what you accomplished instead of trying to forget that week. The awesome thing about New Year’s is that you get 365 new days and 52 new weeks. Don’t let your 2014 be my 2005. Get something out of everyday and respect the time you do have to accomplish goals.
“Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.”-William Penn
