The Sacrifice of Success
Sacrifice is such a pivotal part of success. Without sacrifice, some goals will NEVER be achieved. When you look at the lives of leaders who created great change in the world, they all have one common thread, the willingness to sacrifice. Gandhi was willing to sacrifice food, Mandela was willing to sacrifice his interaction with the outside world, MLK Jr. was willing to sacrifice his safety and the well-being of his family, and Jesus was willing to sacrifice his life in a brutal way in order to connect people back to God. It’s hard to intimidate someone who is willing to put it all on the line to achieve their worthy goal. After reading this article I would love for you to understand the sacrifice of success.
What are you willing to sacrifice in order to obtain the success you desire? I once heard a rapper say “Nothing to live for, nothing to die for. Nothing to die for? What are you here for?” It’s so important to have a vision and a cause for your life. Then once it’s in place, you’ve got to be willing to do whatever takes to see it through.
I’m not telling you anything I am not doing myself. Over the past 6 months I have reevaluated myself and reestablished my commitment to my purpose. I sacrificed 3 major items in my life.
1. No Watching Sports or TV
I’m a big fan of the NBA and the NFL, but I’ve realized that these professional athletes are flowing in their gifting and getting paid well to do it. They probably didn’t spend hours watching sports; they were probably too busy in the gym or the field. In order for me to flow in my gifting, I have to make sacrifices just like they did to get their bodies in optimal condition.
I now average 4-5 hours of sleep a night; I used to sleep 7-8 hours a night. I realized that the only way I am going to get more out of my day is by taking back more of my day. It is stated the average millionaire wakes up at 5am or 6am. Maybe you don’t want to be a millionaire, but how great would it feel to determine you day instead of your day determining what you do?
3. Eating Junk Food
Eating fruits, vegetables, and grains doesn’t sound like an exciting way to live, but we don’t live to eat, we eat to live. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a good burger, fries, and a milkshake, but in order for me to live out my potential, I need to be healthy to accomplish it.
Now comes the deciding factor- what are you going to give up to achieve your God given dreams? Will you change the circle of friends that are holding you back? Will you change your diet? Lifestyle? Sleeping patterns? Media intake? Etc.
To get to the next level greatness you have to give up the things that got you to the level that you’re currently on. What will you willingly sacrifice?
