The Journey is More Important than the Destination

How would you like to win a million dollars without working for it? There are millions of people who would rather abort the process of becoming a success or a millionaire, rather opting to reach the goal without much effort. Look at the lottery for example; according to the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL), $58 billion dollars are spent in the US alone on lottery tickets. This lottery mentality actually hinders a person from enjoying the most pleasurable part of success and that is the journey.

Have you ever beaten a video game, won a championship of some sort, or completed a goal on your bucket list? Have you noticed how short the joy is after completing the goal? It doesn’t last very long before you say to yourself, “What’s next?” The reason is the true joy of success is not the destination; it’s the journey to success that creates the most enjoyment. Any billionaire, millionaire, or anyone who has achieved success (according to the world’s standard) never talks about how great it is to be a success. Instead, they talk about the hardships, the failures, the mistakes and all the things they learned in their process. The beauty of success is found in what you become and the lives you impact, not just the achievements and the accolades you receive.

If you’re focused on your purpose and becoming better at what you do, success is inevitable. Success is the dessert after the meal, but the entree is the journey that you need in order to grow. The greatest achievers always see how they can grow; just because you met your goal doesn’t mean you’re finished. A great artist was once asked, “What’s your greatest piece of art? He replied, “My next one.” Let’s stay motivated and focused on accomplishing our goals while enjoying the journey of success.

“What you become is much more valuable then what you get.”- Jim Rohn
